As fans of luxury and style, the Mayfair in London has to be one of our favorite spots. We hope you like the following article by Handbag.com about the Mayfair.
Luxurious, relaxed, effortless, all at the same time – a stay at the iconic Brown’s should go on everyone’s hotel bucket list.
Let’s cut right to the point – Brown’s is up there as one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. And we have been moaning about checking out ever since.
This is luxury London style – suave, quirky, and honest. It’s the hotel equivalent of Ian McKellen wearing a cravat, while relaxing on a beautiful Chesterfield sofa, with a British bulldog reclining by his feet.
Celebrating it’s 175th birthday, it is the oldest hotel in London, and is set in an unbeatable Mayfair location just off Bond Street.
When it comes to shopping – you are in the perfect spot to wander the designer flagships and battle your way through Oxford Street for high street finds. How splendid.
Sleeping at Brown’s
The hotel itself is full of London charm. Sitting across several adjourned old town houses, it is all rich woods, brass fittings and narrow higgeldy piggeldy corridors – making it feel instantly homely.
The rooms continue the theme of the hotel – lavish but not pretentious.
Twice as big as our flat, we lived like kings in the Dover suite, which features a grand sitting area, office space, dining table, a stunning separate bedroom and plush bathroom.
The whole feel is historic but still thoroughly modern. For example, our bedroom had a huge old wooden desk where Rudyard Kipling penned some of Jungle Book, on the flip side, there’s also a TV in the bath. Old world meets new levels of fancy.
The service is also second to none; efficient, friendly, never intrusive and with personality. Many of Brown’s affluent guests frequent the hotel regularly – and it is easy to see why.
A home away from home (if that home happened to be a multi-million pound Mayfair townhouse), frequent customers can create a bespoke experience from the flowers to the curtains. Now that is winning at life.
Eat and drink
Breakfast is in HIX, the on-site restaurant. Award winning smoked salmon in the eggs royale sets you up for a day hitting the shops, along with a spot of banter from the chirpy waiters.
Return triumphant at the end of the day and enjoy a bespoke martini at the iconic Donovan bar or if cake is more your style, the afternoon tea is renowned (they even do a diet-friendly version).
